Mitch Lorens ... galleries and blogs

The birds in this gallery were photographed over a period of about a year and a half. These hummingbirds are (Or were) all visitors to our home in West Sacramento, Ca. I used a Nikon D500 for the most of the photographs. I Sometimes utilized my D810. Both cameras are excellent for birding and of course, they both have their advantages and disadvantages. For me, the Nikon is familiar and is an excellent tool that I’m quite fond of. My best asset used to successfully capture the birds was my Paul C. Buff Einstein 640flash unit. You really need a flash that can strobe quickly to keep up with the camera’s rapid frame rates. Another asset? Patience 🙂
